Sewage sludge, reject and refuse-derived fuels

Sticky, fibrous material of sharply varying consistency — the task conventional screw conveyors typically fail at.

Sewage sludge, reject and refuse-derived fuels — Wildfellner conveying system in service

Sewage sludge and reject often serve heating plants as a refuse-derived fuel and are fed to combustion at varying degrees of dryness and moisture.

It is exactly this varying consistency that makes the task difficult. The same material is crumbly one moment, sticky the next, then tough — and it is fibrous. A screw with a centre shaft offers fibrous material an axle to wrap around. Once the cross-section is blocked, only opening the system helps.

The shaftless spiral has no such axle. The cross-section stays clear and the material passes through. That is why we have supplied this field for years.

Both tube and trough conveyors are used. Which design fits better is settled during the quotation stage. Depending on the nature of the medium, special tube and trough linings and different wear protection measures are added.

  • 01

    Clear cross-section

Without a centre shaft there is nothing for fibres to wrap around.

  • 02

    Tube or trough

The design follows consistency and moisture range, not a catalogue.

  • 03

Wear protection to suit the medium

Linings and coatings matched to abrasiveness and temperature.
