Wood chip and pellet screw conveyors for biomass

Biomass is our oldest field of application — and the one where the shaftless spiral shows its strengths most directly.

Hog fuel is not a uniform material. Depending on chipper quality, species of wood and drying, particle size, moisture and bulk density vary considerably — and with them the behaviour inside the conveyor. Oversized pieces, bark content and forked branches are the norm, not the exception.

That is exactly where screws with a centre shaft fail: whatever can wrap around an axle eventually does. The shaftless spiral offers no such axle. The cross-section stays clear and oversized pieces pass through.

For pellets a different argument counts: gentle handling. Every bit of abrasion is lost product and creates dust that later causes trouble in the boiler. The spiral pulls and pushes the material rather than cutting it.

Because the same spiral works horizontally, on an incline and vertically, intake and lift can be built as a single line — up to 28 metres of lift without a transfer station.

Häufige Fragen

How high can hog fuel be conveyed vertically?

We have built vertical conveyors with up to 28 metres of lift — with one continuous shaftless spiral and no transfer station between the horizontal and the vertical section.

Does a screw conveyor block on oversized pieces in hog fuel?

A screw with a centre shaft can block on oversized pieces and forked branches because the material wraps around the shaft. The shaftless spiral has no centre shaft, so the cross-section stays clear. Item lengths of up to roughly 400 mm can be conveyed depending on the size built.

Can the intake be driven over by a tractor?

Yes. On request we build recessed intake troughs with heavy-duty gratings that take vehicles with axle loads of up to 10 tonnes.
